The Philosophical Foundations of Fetlabel Inc.
1. Divine Accountability: Based on the biblical questions "Where are you?" and "Where is your brother?", establishing that we are spiritually responsible for ourselves and the well-being of others.
2. Solidarity in Suffering: Inspired by Pope John Paul II’s 1983 visit to Haiti, it emphasizes the need to acknowledge collective social struggles and ask, "Where are we?" in the face of poverty.
3. Witnessing Poverty: Rooted in the personal experience of seeing friends in Haiti suffer from destitution and shame, sparking a lifelong mission to seek out those who are "hiding" in their need.
4. Stewardship of People and Nature: Drawing from Pope Francis and St. Francis of Assisi, this foundation prioritizes the "least of these" and the protection of the environment.
5. Universal Humanism: Aligning with philosophers and humanists who believe the primary goal of existence is the well-being and care of our neighbors.
6. Compassion during Crisis: Reflecting on the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, where prayer and active searching became vital tools to reconnect with the hidden and the lonely.
7. Active Restoration (The GPS Mission): Using the metaphor of a GPS to find lost friends, this foundation encourages lifting others out of sorrow and helping them "get up and walk."
The organization translates these foundations into a practical, non-sectarian mission to serve all Haitians, whether at home or in the diaspora. Their work is characterized by:
Joy as a Priority: Aiming to put a smile on faces regardless of circumstances.
Holistic Support: Celebrating life milestones (birthdays/saints), providing stress relief, and offering guidance for better living.
Community Connection: Reconnecting friends and "citizens of the world" to fight isolation.
Humanitarian Hope: Helping the "sun of Haiti" rise in the hearts of its people, even in the most difficult environments.
